Archaeological reconstructions
The jet jewellery was based on that found in some burial mounds in the general locality. The people were imagined to be of high status. Pots are reconstructed from the fragments actually found at the site, and the look of some of the people, especially the main character with his 20th Century-looking hairstyle, was taken from Roman sculptures of the time. Experimentally reconstructed houses in Dorset, made of the same materials thought to be used on Mam Tor, eg. with heather roofs, gave the information for the buildings, which are sited to coincide with evidence of the positions of some of theactual house platforms. Tattoos are based on those on preserved bodies, particularly on the "Iceman".
Original large pencil drawings were made, with advice from the archaeologists. They tell the story of two visitors to the hillfort. These were then worked on digitally to create the colour versions which were printed onto a series of large banners for display, along with text and images of the local environment at the time and the dramatic wildlife.
The Heeley Roundhouse was drawn from direct observation as it was being constructed, the Iron Age figures being based on the archaeologists doing the work. These figures were put into the original study of the building with the use of digital applications.
